Avery Booth is an artist in Chicago. She primarily works in sculptural assemblage. She often supports her creative process with drawings, and supports her exhibited works on ceramic shelving structures. Her practice centers time and erosion, exploring inevitable cycles of growth and decay. The works take form as residual artifacts from contemplative material studies, informed most often by anxiety and ecological collapse. Maintenance practices are important; many of her exhibited works require iterative re-making or upkeep. She is an attentive observer of her Chicago ecosystem. She forages trash, dead insects, plant matter, rocks, and debris as material. Avery keeps an eye on the curb.

Avery Booth has exhibited sculptural works in Chicago, IL at Sawhorse Gallery (2025 and 2026), Positive Space Studios (2025), Adds Donna (2018), Baby Blue Gallery (2022), and the Terrain Biennial (2023). Her work has been included in multiple shows at Dream Clinic Project Space in Columbus, OH (2023 and 2024).

Avery attended the Longform Residency at Oxbow School of Art in Fall 2024, where she organized a solo show and participated in a group show with members of the cohort.

She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019.

Avery’s work draws from technical training in multiple artistic disciplines, including fiber and material studies, fashion, and performance. She also draws from her lived experience as a transsexual woman, and from her volunteer work in hands-on ecosystem stewardship. Since 2021 she has regularly contributed to land work associated with Kathryn Schaffer’s “Hover” project, and in 2025 she and Kathryn jointly trained with the Illinois Master Naturalist program to support their collaboration.
